Fad Diet Weight Loss Doesn't Work
From the vinegar diet to the maple syrup diet, the fad diet has existed for a long time. The first low carbohydrate diet appeared in 1825 way ahead of Dr. Atkin’s time. Lord Byron popularized the vinegar and water diet in 1820. Try finding the main foods in the Inuit Meat and Fat diet in your grocery store: caribou, raw fish and whale blubber.
So, as strange as all these fad diets sound, why do we succumb to them? For the most part, we look for the shortcut when it comes to weight loss. Not only does it take discipline to eat right and exercise, but a lot of people find it boring and they grow impatient waiting for the results. As ridiculous as eating cabbage soup sounds, people are willing to give it a shot if they think they will lose weight.
The problem is that fad diets offer this magical solution to weight loss. Sooner or later, the spell will wear off as one grows tired of eating cabbage soup. Then, the person returns to their usual patterns of eating and the weight comes back. A diet should change a person’s eating and exercise habits for life, not just for a short time.
