Fad Diet Weight Loss Doesn't Work

From the vinegar diet to the maple syrup diet, the fad diet has existed for a long time.  The first low carbohydrate diet appeared in 1825 way ahead of Dr. Atkin’s time.  Lord Byron popularized the vinegar and water diet in 1820.  Try finding the main foods in the Inuit Meat and Fat diet in your grocery store: caribou, raw fish and whale blubber.

So, as strange as all these fad diets sound, why do we succumb to them?  For the most part, we look for the shortcut when it comes to weight loss.  Not only does it take discipline to eat right and exercise, but a lot of people find it boring and they grow impatient waiting for the results.  As ridiculous as eating cabbage soup sounds, people are willing to give it a shot if they think they will lose weight.

It’s tempting to look for the quick fix.  Being thin seems like a prerequisite to success these days.  The bottom line, however, is that there is no quick fix.  When you’re able to recognize a fad diet as well as understand its downfall, you’re on your way to discovering a diet that really works in achieving long-term weight loss.
